What would you say to home phone service for $20 per year, with International calls as low as $.02 a minute…what…that's crazy talk…no that's a license to talk crazy!
Magicjack.com offers home phone service for $20.00 a year…YES a year! No more monthly bills plus a free 30 day trial. Click here and sign up. Your magicjack is mailed to you via good ol' United States Postal Service within 1 week. When you receive your package you get exactly what it says a "magic" jack. Here's the magic part: 1) plug the jack into your PC or Mac 2) register on-line (registration time less than 3 minutes) to receive your phone # and activate your jack 3) CALL EVERYONE YOU KNOW!
Listen, I had the same reservations as some of you probablly have reading this, but it works. We've had ours for 20 days and it's just like what our normal home phone service was, without the bill. After the 30 days we will be charged $39.95 plus shipping ($6.95 to MO could be higher in AK and HI, sorry Dean). $20 for the jack and $20 for our first year of phone service or the first years 'license'.
You're probably toying with the notion of going totally mobile, and we have been totally mobile for the past 2 years, but our circumstances have changed a bit which prompted us to re-order home phone service. After researching at&t, skype, vonage, etc. magicJack was THE best deal, hands down.
The PROS:
- You have free local and long distance service to anyone including land lines, mobile lines, etc. whether they have a magicJack or not. You can call anyone within the United States and Canada…anytime…unlimited…no restrictions, no limits.
- International Calling, do you have family or friends outside of the US and Canada? If you do, you can send them a magicJack and call eachother free, unlimited, no restrictions. OR, you can call for as little as 2 cents a minute, depending on what International location. No more calling cards to buy and no more ridiculous phone bills. I have family in South Korea and that last time we talked before magicJack my bill was $37.00 for 25 minutes, thanks to AT&T. That same phone call if I had magicJack would have cost me 50 cents. I can find 50 cents in my couch!
- You have free Caller ID and Call Waiting. You have a small window that you can minimize or leave up on your PC to let you know who is calling. You can accept or reject calls by simply hitting Accept or Reject.
- You have free Voicemail. You can call in to your voicemail anytime, anywhere and check your voicemail messages, plus it e-mails you to the e-mail address you enter in your account information when you first register. The e-mail simply states that you have a voicemail, it gives you the duration time of the voicemail and it also gives you the number from which the voicemail came from! So at the office, you can receive e-mail notifications or check your voicemail manually. Genius!
- Your phone # is your # for LIFE! Which means if I pick up and move back home to Colorado from St. Louis, I can keep my phone #, area code and all. Being self-employed, it's perfect, absolutely perfect!
- Another perk, you register your phone # with your local 911 Service, it takes anywhere from 24-72 hours for it to register and you have the peace of mind of having 911 Service from your home!
- You can use your phone, any phone, cordless, cord, whatever you have! You do not have to purchase their phone (magicJack does not have phones to sell) or a special phone compatible with the jack. Every phone works!
The CONS:
- You do have to plug your Jack into your PC or Mac and your computer has to be on in order to make and receive phone calls.
- We've recently had lots of spring rain and flooding in the St. Louis area and I did notice our phone service was a little spotty at times, but for about 3 days of minor inconvenience. The rain has subsided and we've had no problems since then.
I don't know about you, but I think the PROS outweight the CONS! I've already turned 8 people that I talk with on a regular basis to magicJack and the ones who have it love it, the others are anxiously waiting! Any questions you have, just post them in Comments and I'll answer them personally.
If your computer is off, can people who are calling you leave a message, or must the computer be on for this to happen?
Hello friends:
I am excited about your product. But before I purchase one please provide me out with some answers which my wife insists on getting.
a)Can this be a second line with a DIFFERENT #
b)If I travel overseas to visit family in
Australia or UK could I take my MagicJack to
use while away.
c)Can MagicJack be used without a coumputer.
Is it also designed to be plucked into a phone
d)Would a Power Outage affect the use of a
MagicJack. Or is it perhaps like some phones:
battery operated??
e)Will I be able to get 911
Your reply will be truly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Joe Farrugia

I have just read the very first comment. The
question asked makes alot of sense. I would also like to know what happens if someone calls whether an answer can be left for me without the MagicJack being plugged in.
You can also clear me on this question: Is Magic
-Jack of any use to a houshold without a computer?
Many thanks.
Regards,
Joe Farrugia
Response to Martha – By Sunnie – No, your computer does not need to be on to receive a message it just needs to be on to receive a call. If your computer is off, any incoming calls go straight to voicemail. The neat thing is, no matter if your computer is on or off, you will receive an e-mail notifying you that you have a voice mail, the duration of the voicemail and the number of the call.
Response to Joe – By Sunnie
My response to Joe is:
A. It can be a second, third, forth line and the number is ported automatically. With ours our #’s pre-fix we had a couple of choices, but the last 4 digits were random. This could be different from state or city.
B. From what the website says, you can take your magicjack with you overseas, you just need to plug it into a computer with internet service.
C. Magicjack is just that a phone jack. You plug the magic jack in to your USB port in your computer and then you plug your phone into the jack. You cannot plug the magicjack into a standard phone jack that would be on a wall in your home, it only works with our computer.
D. No, the jack has no batteries and requires no electricity. It only requires a computer. If your computer loses power, etc. you have no magicjack and no phone.
E. Yes, you have free 911 service. You have to register for 911 service. After you receive your magicjack you have to plug it into your computer and register it. When you enter your home address, it will take up to 72 hours for it to register for 911 service. It lets you know when your 911 Service is up and running.
F. The magicjack is useless without a computer.
We’ve had ours since the middle of March and we’ve had no problems, I love it, no monthly phone bill, our calls are crystal clear and it works with any phone in our home. When people hear how much we pay for our home phone service, after they pick their jaws up from the floor, they’re intrigued. We had to make a customer service call into our local cable provider with questions about our bill and of course, the agent on the phone wanted to upsale services to us. We have direct tv and our phone service is with magicjack. We just have our HSI through our local cable company. He wanted us to bundle our services with cable, telephone and HSI. He asked us what we pay a month for our home phone service and my husband kindly replied, you wouldn’t believe me if I told you. Then he proceeded to tell him we pa $20/year. The customer service rep. started typing away and pulled up the website and my husband converted him over the phone!
I am doing some serious shopping. We live in New Mexico and will be moving very shortly to Alamosa, CO. I am of course trying to save some money. I heard about your magic jack from a friend who has a friend that has it. At the same time I am hearing from another friend about an inexpensive ISP, People PC. I have talked to them and they have some concerns that People PC will not work without a dedicated phone line. The phone line, of course connects to the back of the computer with a regular phone connection to the modem. The Magic Jack connects through a port in the front of the computer. People PC has some concerns that the two will not be compatible. Can you answer this concern, please? Thank you.
Response to Jo V. First off, congrats on the move to Colorado, my husbands from there and my father so we have lots of family, friends and dreams of moving there ourselves again! The only thing I know about People PC is from friends who have had their service and have switched from their service. I know nothing else. My husband actually found the magicJack. With magicJack, you just plug it into your computer, it takes a couple of minutes to download and register, then you’re up and running. Literally from the time my husband received it in the mail until he made his first phone call was less than 5 minutes. We do not have any traditional phone line service, except through our computer through magicJack. I’m not sure what would not be compatible and would be compatible. I hope this answers some fraction of your question…if not, please leave another comment and I’ll do my best to get to the bottom of it! – Sunnie
I only have dial up internet service. If I disconnect from the phone company how can Magic jack work for me? Do you have to have satalite internet or some other way to connect to the internet? I’m confused about how you can disconect from the phone company and still connect to the internet. Thanks TRT
DOES IT WORK ON A router that is used for the tel as well as Internet?? and what kind of ports are involved if you need or do not have USB or enough of them
is it compatible with older MAC’S I HAVE A OS(v10.2)
Tom, From what we (my husband and I) have researched you have to have HSI, not dial up. I would go to the website http://www.magicjack.com and ask them yourself to make sure. Trust me, it’s worth it to trade in one bill for no bill!
1. Can you use your existing phone number or can you only use numbers provided and area codes that are available with MagicJack? If the latter is the case and there are only a hand full of area codes will that mean that someone calling you would be making a long distance call?
2. If you disconnect the landline phone service from the outside box so that the house lines are completely independent, can you then plug MagicJack into a wall phone plug so that you can use any phone plugged into another wall phone plug? If not then you will only have one phone in one room which may not be ideal for a house with multiple floors and several bedrooms.
I have a Magicjack which I am taking with me very soon to Australia for a visit. I want to call back to the USA with the device while I am traveling.
Do I have to carry an American phone connection cord with me? Or do Australian phones use phone connecting cords that can be plugged into Magicjack. IOW, do I have to carry an American phone and its cord with me on my trip?
Would appreciate advice ASAP.

After completing installation of Magicjack into my computer, will it still be possible for me to use my other (not computer connected) telephone in the normal fashion (for local calls, Long distance, etc.) if I were of a mind to — simply by placing calls in the usual manner WITHOUT going thru the computer?
Please respond via e-mail.

Hi
I am just asking about the possibility of using magic jack between Australia and (Egypt)
can I use my current phone #?
hello
i am just asking about the possibility of using magic jack between usa and cuba .
Boy is this the wrong place to be asking all these questions. These nice folks are just providing product information and thier satisfaction. I have two. Yes you need your computer. No you cannot use your own phone number. If it is offline the msgs usually will to to answer mode. Yes they assign you a number and you can make and receive calls anywhere in the US. They are now advertising a new service for international calls. Go to http://www.magicjack.com for service details and faq.
Mine works fine and i save a ton of cell minutes. I take mine w me every where i go and plug into many differnet computers still h ave a working phone of my own no matter what office i am working in. clients like it because i am not chewing up thier long distance bills to make support calls. Give it a try. Even if you dont get rast resolution if you want to return it what the heck only cost you 20 and 20 for service. That easily is spent on fast food in a month even if you only bout a soda and sandwich. Cheapest investment yu will ever make for phone calls.
Could I use Magic jack with my cell phone
Can you use a fax machine with this unit

Can calls be made to Mexico from the US using the magic jack? I need to know this prior to making a purchase
Does anyone else have any experience with this?
This advice is really going to help, thanks.
I read somewhere that users of Magic Jack will be able to use the telephone numbers given to them by the local telephone service sometime during 2009. Has this happened yet? I do not want to have to use the number given by M.J. I returned the M.J. device because of this.
hello how may i use magic jack between canada and CUBA, PLEASE. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANTS MARKETS THAT CUBANS WHO LIVE OUTSIDE THE COUNTRY WANT TO REACH. COULD YOU HELP ME WITH THAT..
You CAN PLUG MAGIC JACK INTO WALL!
CALL YOUR LOCAL PHONE COMPANY AND HAVE THEM TAKE VOLTAGE OFF YOUR HOUSE. ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS OPEN THEIR BOX ON YOUR HOUSE AND PULL THE PLUG. THEN YOU CAN PLUG MAGIC JACK INTO THE WALL AND ACTIVATE THE WHOLE HOUSE!!!! they may charge you a truck roll fee to do so but so worth it.
IF you DONT want to spend any money than their are other ways to get magic jack to work on the whole house.
It can be a little confusing but it can be done. There are several ways to do it. 1st you need to make sure there is no voltage currently on your phone lines. Even if you do not have phone service your towns provider does have voltage on those lines in almost all cases. What you have to do is go to the unfinished part of your basement where the fuse box is for your house. somewhere near there should be where all your phone lines tie in. It will be a an H block or a 66 block if your house is less than 10 years old. You need to take the line that goes outside to your phone box OFF of the 66 or h block “can cut if you want”. Then you can plug the magic jack straight into the wall and it will activate all of the outlets.
With voice over ip’s “magic jack” if you leave voltage on the line it WILL seize the line until one is unplugged. If you wish to have a phone jack where magic jack plugs into you will need to buy a plate that has dual phone jacks on it. What you need to do is on the back where is red, green, black, and yellow lines that feed around screws. Take the bottom red and green loose and attach them to the red and green on the top this links the two jacks together. Then take off existing jack look at how it is wired and wire it the same way to the top jack of the new one again matching the colors red and green. IN A NEW HOUSE THE WIRE COLORS MAY BE ONE LINE BLUE “RED” AND ONE LINE BLUE AND WHITE “GREEN” As i said as long as you pay attention to how it is wired on the old one it should be easy. Hook it in and you have an open port to plug your phone into…. If you have any questions email me at tyler1001242@yahoo.com
I WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO GUIDE YOU THROUGH ANY QUESTIONS OR PROBLEMS!
can i use my cell phone with magic jack
MagicJack Pricing is great right now, but what is the future to hold? Will there be a price increase later on as the network of users grows? Should we all invest in MagicJack by buying years in advance to help this small giant of phone service expand into the phone company of the future? Will my daughter still be using MagicJack when shes may age? I would hope so, in a world of high prices it’s such a relief to have MagicJack.
I am always looking online for ideas that can assist me. Thanks!
