Think about the things that you currently have stored on your computer. Chances are there are many things that you just do not want to lose. For example, you could have precious family photos, irreplaceable business documents, tax details, writings, or many other things that you just will not want to lose. Now, think about how many times a computer hard drive fails. It would be so easy for you to lose all of those important documents and items.
Back It Up Online
You can avoid this by choosing online backup services that can keep all of your information backed up off site. This way, if something happens to your computer, you will not lose all of your important information. The other great thing about these online backup services is that they run in the background of your computer so you don’t have to manually backup your computer.
Both programs use algorithms to calculate and backup only the files that your change or are new. Your initial backup may take days depending on how much date you have on your hard drive. If your drive is very large you can even leave your computer on overnight to get a complete backup faster.
Two of the most popular back up services are Carbonite and Mozy. In order to choose the right one, you will need to compare the two. Here are the details about how the two back up services stand up against each other.
Storage Abilities and Back Up Ease
Unlimited Storage?
Both of these services offer unlimited storage, but you will have to pay differently. For example, Carbonite works by offering you a pay per year price for unlimited storage. However, Mozy charges based on how much storage you want. With Mozy, you can pay about six dollars a month for 50 GB of storage, ten dollars a month for 125 GB, and then you can add an extra 20 GB for two dollars a month.
With both types of backups, you can make use of automatic back up and scheduled back up programs so that you do not have to remember to back up your computer on a regular basis.
Back Up Locations
With both Mozy and Carbonite, you can back up your information to the servers offered by the service. However, there is one difference between the two companies. With Carbonite, you can choose to easily back up your computer to an external hard drive that you own. You cannot do this with Mozy. Instead, with Mozy, your only choice is to back up to an off-site server.
When comparing the two back up services, there are many similarities in product. The main difference is cost. Carbonite provides a flat fee per year, while Mozy provides different costs based on how much space you want. While Carbonite is more expensive, it gives unlimited space. While Mozy is inexpensive, it does have limitations on how much you can store.
Recommendation
With all that being said, I have to recommend Carbonite based on their unlimited online storage. As media we store (photos, music, videos) gets larger and larger having unlimited backup will be essential. I was actually using Mozy for quite some time but will be switching to Carbonite once my subscription ends. If you feel like trying any of the services out, you can try free versions with limited storage backup.
