Why turning off your PC save you money

Overclockers.com has interesting article on how much it cost to run a reasonably equipped PC every month.  If your like me and leave your computer on almost 24/7 then you may be surprised as to how much it could be costing you.  This article says it will cost you about $45 a month if you leave a reasonably equipped PC on all the time and up to $54.95 if you run a power user PC.

I myself use a laptop and set it to turn off the screen and go into standby mode when not in use for a while.  After reading this article though I think I will start trying to save electricity by simple turning off my computer when I will not be using it.

Here is another tip to save some money on electricity using your PC.  Get a power strip if you don’t have one and turn off the power strip after you turn off you computer.  I do this because believe it or not a lot of devices still use electricity even when it is not on.  Also if you have a cell phone I recommend unplugging your power cord after it it done charging also to conserve electricity and trim your electric bill.

Got any other ideas on how to save electricity?  Please post them in the comment section below.  Thank you.
