Do You Have Enough Cash for Christmas?
I just read this article on how much the average American is expected to spend this holiday season. Here are the numbers they predict.
The average consumer is predicted to spend about $791.10 during this holiday season. $451.34 of that will be spent on family and $85.60 will be spent on friends. The remaining money will be spent on candy and food ($91.20) and decorations $46.49 (decorations).
So do you have enough cash this holiday season? Well if your like most Americans you don’t and will probably be reaching for the all mighty credit card.
I think setting a budget is a quick and easy way to prevent you from going “spend crazy” this holiday season. I know many people also do Secret Santa gifting so you don’t have to get a present for everyone of your family members or friends. Also shopping online may be less prone to impulse buying as compared to shopping in the malls.
I know for me spending money on food is always a killer. Personally I probably eat out about 5-6 time a week but during the time constraining and stressful holidays that number goes way up. One way I combat the expenses of eating out all the time is I buy a lot premade frozen foods from my local Costco. They taste good and is easy to prepare and cost much less than eating out. In fact, I think tonight I’m going to eat a frozen meat lasagna with vine ripened tomatoes from Costco. Just pop that baby in the oven and you got a meal for 4 that is under $10.
So how do you guys and gals save money on food?
Anyway, just a quick reality check as the holiday shopping season rages on. So shop early to prevent yourself from “procrastination spending” and save some money on your food budget by stocking up your freezer with some cheap and good frozen foods.
