I saw this CompUSA HP Pavilion DV9207US notebook today from an email I got from CompUSA and was surprise to find out how hot this deal is.  In fact I would say this is a smoking deal for a laptop with an 17 inch screen, high end graphics card, TV tuner, web camera, Window Premium Edition and a 1.73 Intel Duo Core processor, 120 GB hard drive and 1 GB memory.  If you want a desktop replacement laptop that can watch TV and even play all your high end games this is the best deal out there right now.  It is on sale for $799 with free shipping after $400 rebates.  I really hate mail in rebates but I will make an exception for this laptop.  I’ll probably be going down to my local CompUSA to pick it up tonight.  Yes, I do have a weakness for technology.

HP Pavilion DV9207US – Things that make a grown man drool

I have been buying Dell laptops and desktops for the past 10 years so this will be my first HP computer.  The difference between a good computer brand and a bad computer brand has been shrinking rapidly.  Many people ask me what computer should I buy, but I just tell them now days you can’t really go wrong, I mean how good of a computer do you need to surf the web.  Just like any other technology product as time goes by, the generic will perform just as well as the name brand.  Just think of DVD players just a few years ago when they used to cost $1000, the disparity between the cheap and quality DVD players were quite noticeable.  Today you can pick up a generic that does just about everything the name brand one does today.  The same thing is happening with computers, mp3 players, GPS, etc.

Ok, back to the laptop.  This deal will expire on the 3/24 so do your research and see if you can find a better laptop deal.  Once your done head on down to your local CompUSA or order online, they offer free shipping with this laptop.

  1. You will be sorry… The new model/ design HP note books are made of cheap material and they have very poor motherboards. I support the nc6220 models at a large company and we have issues with 2 a day !!! They are a nightmare.

  2. well, I went ahead and bought it. I hope your wrong about the laptop reliability but well have to wait and see. I was reading many laptop forums and it seems to have gotten good reviews. Thanks for the advice though.

How are you finding the HP 9207us laptop? I bought one and I’m trying to decide
whether to open the box! Is the 1 GB memory enough? I would greatly appreciate
your feedback and opinions about this laptop! Is it that much heavier than a
    15.4″? thank you!

  4. Hey Ray, sorry I’ve been meaning to update everyone on the laptop purchase.

It is awesome, everything load quickly the extras on this laptop make this a bargain. I didn’t know but it comes with 2 remotes, one for the laptop and one for the tv tuner. I consider myself a power user and it performs very well. I don’t find it to be heavy but I’m don’t mind a heavier laptops. You can also add another hard drive on this laptop if you want more storage capacity, this is something I didn’t know about but might come in handy later on.

The screen is awesome, on my older 15.4 screen the text was too small but with this 17″ screen text is large and clear. My eye optometrist would approve.

I also hook up my laptop to a LCD monitor so I and use the laptop screen as a dual monitor and it does it well. I haven’t loaded any games yet though but the graphics card is suppose to been one of the better ones. I’m sure it will perform well.

If I had one grip it would be that the shift key on the right hand side is small and can take some time for be to retain myself. Although, I use a external ergonomic keyword 90% of the time. My old laptop also had 1 Gig of memory but the bottle neck was the processor and this new dual core processor is awesome.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Everyones opinion is different but really this was a really good deal for a laptop as I have not seen anything at this price from any laptop vendor and probably won’t for a while.

I really appreciate your feedback. Yes, I know that the small right shift key is small. I would need to get into the habit of using the left one. have you used the TV tuner yet? Does Vista surf the Internet fast? Does the screen have a lot of glare? Have you tried out the battery much? It’s an 8 cell, I think it’s supposed to provide about 2.5 to 3 hours use. I am 50 years old so I think my eyes would prefer a 17″ screen. Thanks again for your help!

I have tried out the TV tuner, windows media center is pretty awesome as you can set use it as a DVR. I use firefox to surf the web and it is fast and my cable internet connection. There is plenty of processing power so loading pages are quick. There is little glare, the screen is a beauty. I have not tried the batter as I pretty much use this laptop as a moble desktop, if your worried about battery life I think this laptop don’t fare as well as other because it is a performance laptop. Yes, your eyes will appreciate this screen, it will be hard to go back to my 15.4, in fact there is no comparison.

  6. I purchased one of the CompUSA specials also and have been pleased. I agree the right shift key is terrible especially for those of us who have a slight handicap with the left hand, it has taken a while to retrain the brain to use the left one. I upgraded the memory to the maximum 2 gb thanks to a Newegg GSkill 667mhz special for $119, I sold the old memory on ebay and got most of it back. The Vista score is now on par with my core2 dektop! The graphics work well with WOW and battlefield. The battery life is nothing to write home about but it is what is expected of a LARGE screen laptop. I have a Dell D400 for travel as it has long battery life and is easy to lug around conventions and thru airports. The closest deal I have found to this one is a similar unit (almost exact) from Staples for $849 without waiting on the rebate. I am a little worried about the rebate as CompUSA is closing over 100 stores so I hope I get my rebate before they call it quits. This laptop works as designed and is a worthwhile investment for those how can live with the weight.

  7. Hi
I to am looking at this exact same laptop and am really ready to buy now. Have a Viao Sony for years now with the 15.4 screen and really am looking forward tothe new size up and tv tuner et al. Glad you guys both like yours. Even though I am right handed I only use the left shift key so hopefully will be all right. Unfortunately I live in Montana and there are no Compusa stores here and they no longer sell it online so have to buy somewhere else. I will write again and let you know how I like it in a few weeks.

  8. There are thousands of frusted dv9207 owner who are sorry about their purchase. How about you Mr. Cheap Stuff?

  9. I still own the HP DV9207 but since then I have purchases 2 other laptops. For the time I was using it I had no hardware problems. One big gripe that I do have about it is that the keyword is odd and after using my Macbook the touch pad is clumsy.
