Google recently launched another potent service with their free 411 calling. Anyone can use it and it is completely automated meaning you don’t talk to a real person. That might sound like a bummer but the voice recognition of this service is surprisingly accurate and quick. The interface is very intuitive and you can even get phone numbers by category.

The phone book just turned invisible.

Example if you wanted to call a restaurant like “Sushi King” you would just say “Sushi King” or you could just say “Sushi” to find the number by category.  This is awesome especially if your on the road and want to make a phone order for food or reservations.

Google 411 also connects you to the number for free or if you would like it can text message you the phone number. There are other free 411 services like 1800FREE411 but with the backing of Google you know this service will probably take off.

So go ahead and put this phone number on you cell phone: 1-800-GOOG-411 or 1-800-466-4411. It will come in real handy one day.  Also tell your friends and family if they are paying for 411 because many phone companies charge more than a dollar each time you use their service.
