For those of you that are interested to see what appliances kill your electricity bill check out this Electric Appliance Calculator. You are able to get a good estimate on how your appliances affect your electricity bill. This electric calculator is for the state of Wisconsin but you can easily update it with your own electricity rates as well as your appliance wattages.

The Electricity Bill Killers
The real killer seem to be the usual suspects which include the air conditioner, washer, dryer, refrigerator and water heater. The water heater is he worst out of them all but I’m sure you could cut that down if you have solar or have a simple water heater timer. Also if you have an old refrigerator you might be better off buying a new more efficient one.
After I checked out this calculator I realize that appliances like my microwave or radio really don’t use much electricity. Also I think the power usage of TVs are often overrated as they don’t seem use much electricity in comparison to the other electricity hogs.
Electricity Bill for a Computer Power User
One of my electricity killers is my computer, I do use a laptop computer so that does help but I also have a dual monitor set-up with an external hard drive. I have my computer on day and night so it adds up. I also have an air conditioner but don’t really run it because my place stays pretty cool during the day although summer is coming soon.
I hate to go political but if you haven’t seen the documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” with Al Gore, I recommend checking it out. What can I say, after watching that I have started to recycle and be a little bit more aware of my environmental impact.
