Southwest Airlines is having a nationwide sale with airfares from $49-$109 on one way fares. There are restrictions for this promotion, you must book your flight by September 24 and travel from September 28th through November 15th. You must also fly on off-peak days which are Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. If you plan on flying book your flights as soon as possible so you get a cheap seat.
A Hawaii Tidbit/Tangent
Too bad those fares aren’t valid to Hawaii, although I have seen flights as low as $127 from Honolulu to Oakland a couple weeks ago from ATA Airlines. If you watch the fares to Hawaii you can find round trip flights less than $300, plus there really is no bad time to come to Hawaii. I recently got a couple of cheap Hawaiian Airlines tickets for $9 from Honolulu, Hawaii to Hilo, Hawaii (Big Island) as there has been an airfare war going on between Hawaii interisland carriers. See my review of Hawaiian airlines.
Hawaii also has a new Superferry service that allows you to go from island to island by sea. You can even take your car from island to island. The trip takes about 3 hours one way depending on which island you travel to. The service just started very recently and has been very controversial due to environmental concerns.

One deffinatly has to keep there eyes open for offers such as these that you mention. However, once you train yourself to and are able to do it effecentialy, finding good deals becomes somewhat of a hobbie. Very quality post here. Ill be subscribing!
