that crowd looks awfully big, i don't want to stand next to sweaty people

The Lollapalooza music festival will be held August 7-9 in Grant Park, Chicago, packed with lots of great bands.  A daily pass is $80 but you can enjoy some of the same music for nothing, with a free, legal download offered on the Lollapalooza site.  It’s 15 songs from some of the artists who will be performing at the festival.  Expires August 30, 2009.

LIST OF SONGS IN THE LOLLAPALOOZA MUSIC SAMPLER

* ALBERTA CROSS – The Thief & The Heartbreaker
* BON IVER – Skinny Love
* CONSTANTINES – Trans Canada
* DEERHUNTER – Nothing Ever Happened
* ERIC CHURCH – Smoke a Little Smoke
* FLEET FOXES – Mykonos
* JOE PUG – Hymn #101
* LANGHORNE SLIM – Rebel Side of Heaven
* LIVING THINGS – Oxygen
* RYE RYE – Bang
* THE HENRY CLAY PEOPLE – You Can Be Timeless
* THE KNUX – Fire (Put It In the Air)
* THE RAVEONETTES – Dead Sound
* WHITE LIES – Farewell to the Fairground

Despite having nearly 18,000 songs in my music collection, I’m always looking for new tunes.  I already have "Mykonos" by Fleet Foxes and highly recommend it.  The lilting, breezy beat and fine harmonies are a bit reminiscent of Crosby, Stills and Nash; it’s a great summer tune.

I can’t wait to hear some new alternative music from artist, that I never heard of yet.  I only heard of Santogold from America’s Best Dance Crew season 2 Champions, Super Crew.  I used to listen to the Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Live back in the mid 90’s, when alternative music was really popular.

More Free Music

music back in the day, before the high tech era If there’s one thing I like better than music, it’s FREE music.  You might know that the iTunes store posts a couple of free songs every week (on Tuesdays).   Well, it looks like Wal-Mart will not be outdone.  They’re offering a free song every week too.  This week is an offering perfect for Valentine’s Day, the classic "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) by Marvin Gaye.

I was happy to discover Wal-Mart’s free downloads and I see that they are now in mp3 format and fully compatible with iPods.  I think the Wal-Mart songs were in Windows format before, so they were unusable to Mac owners like me.  Now the songs are both Windows and Mac-friendly, and can be imported into iTunes or Windows Media Player.

This is great because you can get 8 songs for free instead of paying a dollar a song on iTunes or Zune.  It will save you time and money, so you don’t have to drive to your nearest Borders or Sam Goody and buy each artist CD because there is no compilation of all these songs.
