If you have hard water, it leaves a film on your hair, skin and the clothes you wash. It also can shorten the life of your appliances such as your washer or dishwasher.

Not surprisingly, Morton’s sells salt products for home water softeners, so they have a stake in this. The way my house’s plumbing is set up, though, I’m not able to install a home water softener.  Still, it’s useful to know if I have hard water because I can buy special laundry products to do a better job of washing my clothes.   I’ve also installed a filter on my shower head to soften the water that I use for washing my hair.
